Little Red Hen

Little Red Hen 9x9" oil
This is my demo of the entry for the chicken challenge at DPW . I also have it at my blog . I used alkyd primed linen here and , as I didn't have a prepared panel, just clipped it to the hardboard I use. Then, started in with a red-brown wash and bit of drawing for placement. Next, came the dark transparent shadows. After that I began with middle value opaques, building up to lighter values and details. I am happy to answer questions, let me know...thanks, Mary

Painting a Beagle by Carolyn Finnell

Painting a pet has different challenges and rewards. I paint the eyes first because the eyes are what makes the portrait come alive, if they are not right, I might as well wipe it and start over.
